PM Nawaz leaves for New York to attend UN General Assembly session

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif left for New York on Tuesday to attend the annual session of the United Nations General Assembly.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said that the prime minister will address the 69th annual session of the UN general assembly on Friday.

The prime minister is expected to focus on a cooperation-based relationship with neighbouring countries India and Afghanistan while he will also highlight the Kashmir issue in his speech at the UN general assembly, according to diplomatic sources in Islamabad.

The Foreign Office further said that the prime minister will also co-chair UN peacekeeping summit along with the US Vice President Joe Biden and a few other world leaders.

The premier will hold bilateral meetings with many world leaders during his visit to the US on the sidelines of the session.

Sharif will also participate in an energy conference along with the premiers of Norway and Denmark during which they will explore ways to acquire energy through non-conventional sources.
