Peace negotiators voice concern over anti-peace activities

ISLAMABAD: The negotiators from the government and the Taliban on Friday expressed apprehensions that anti-peace activities would make it difficult to continue the dialogue process.

In a joint statement issued after the government and Taliban’s negotiators for peace talks met in Islamabad on Friday, the two sides called upon the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) to end arbitrary activities and ensure the implementation of peace in the country.

The two sides said that these activities would cast negative impact on the dialogue process.

During the meeting, the government’s committee demanded an immediate end to terror attacks, while Irfan Siddiqui said that the purpose of holding dialogue was to restore peace in the country and added that in absence of it, talks could not be held for long.

Meanwhile, the Taliban’s committee also appealed against creating a provocative situation.

TTP claimes reponsiblitiy for attack on police bus in Karachi

On Thursday, the TTP claimed responsibility for the suicide bombing that ripped through a police bus in Karachi’s Razzakabad area, killing at least 13 persons and injuring 47 others.

The TTP spokesman Shahidullah Shahid said that the attack on the police bus in Karachi was carried out in retaliation to the killing of their members by police and Rangers in Peshawar, Swabi and Karachi.

The spokesman added that the Taliban would continue to carry out such attacks in their defence until a ceasefire was announced.
