Pakistan reacts strongly to Indian minister’s statement over CPEC

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan has strongly responded to the statement of the Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in which she said that India is against the $46 billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project.

In a press conference in New Delhi on Sunday, Sushma Swaraj told that the Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi during his recent three-day official visit to China raised “very strongly” the issue of the CPEC and told the Chinese leadership that that it is “unacceptable”.

In a reaction to the Indian External Affairs Minister’s statement, Pakistan’s Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said that both Pakistan and China are committed to the implementation of the CPEC project.

The spokesman said that the economic corridor will not only benefit Pakistan but the entire region.

“Prime minster during his visit took up the issue very firmly and spoke very strongly that the CPEC going through PoK (Pakistan-occupied Kashmir) is unacceptable,” Sushma Swaraj said according to Zee News.

The Indian minister said that the government summoned the Chinese envoy over the CPEC that is to run through Pakistani Kashmir. She said that the Indian envoy in Beijing also raised the issue.
