ISLAMABAD: Pakistan’s foreign office summoned the Afghan Charge d’Affairs on Wednesday to lodge a strong protest over the cross-border firing by the Afghan border security personnel that killed at least five Pakistani citizens in an area close to the Pak-Afghan border in Balochistan earlier in the day.

The Afghan border security personnel on Wednesday opened indiscriminate fire in the Pak-Afghan border area of Qamar Din Karez, around 350 kilometres from Zhob city, killing at least five Pakistani citizens.

“The Afghan Charge d’Affaires was summoned to the Foreign Office and a strong protest was lodged over the indiscriminate firing on Wednesday by the Afghan Border Police near village Godwana‚ Zhob district‚ which resulted in the shahadat of five innocent Pakistanis,” the Foreign Office spokesperson said in a statement.

The spokesman said that serious concern of the government of Pakistan was conveyed to the Afghan diplomat.

“The Afghan government was asked to hold an inquiry into the incident, adhere to the border coordination and cooperation mechanisms, and prevent the recurrence of such incidents, which are detrimental to the friendly relations and undermine goodwill between the two brotherly countries,” the spokesman said.
