Pakistan, Japan sign two security agreements

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan and Japan on Wednesday signed two security agreements in Islamabad.

Under the agreement, Japan will provide a grant of $19 million to Pakistan for improvement in security arrangements in Port Qasim, Karachi Port and Energy Saving in Water Supply System in Lahore.

The federal finance minister Ishaq Dar and the Japanese Envoy to Pakistan Hiroshi Inomata were also present in the signing ceremony.

On the occasion, the finance minister said that Pakistan and Japan had a long history of economic cooperation.

The minister said that he is now looking forward to furtherance of this cooperation with enhanced Japanese investment in Pakistan as pledged during his visit to Japan.

Ishaq Dar further said that inauguration of state of the art Yamaha motorcycle plant in April would also add another chapter to our economic cooperation.

The Japanese envoy said that the Japanese government was extending $16 billion to developing countries from 2013-15 on environment related issues. The grant approved for Pakistan also formed part of this assistance.

The ambassador said that the assistance provided for security improvement in Karachi, Bin Qasim Ports would help improve security clearance system at the Karachi and Bin Qasim Ports.

Hiroshi Inomata said that the Japanese government also had a resolve to help Pakistan in the war on terror.
