Pakistan has not changed its foreign policy: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Thursday that Pakistan has not changed its foreign policy vis-a-viz its neighbors and Muslim countries.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam categorically stated that no country has asked for military help from Pakistan for its internal affairs.

Earlier in the day, in his address to a renaming ceremony of the PAF Mianwali airbase, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif also said that no country has requested Pakistan to send its forces nor Pakistan will send its forces to any other country.

The FO spokesperson further said that the prime minister is likely to attend Nuclear Safety Summit beginning in The Hague from next Monday.

“Pakistan being a responsible nuclear state takes its responsibility about nuclear security very seriously,” she said.

The spokesperson pointed out that it has been agreed in the summit process that nuclear security is primarily the national responsibility.

Aslam said that the visit of the prime minister to Iran is also very much on the cards but the exact date has not been worked out.

In reply to a question about giving more trade concessions to India, she said that Pakistan has some concerns in this regard.

“To make the process of trade expansion more durable and to move forward our bilateral relations on sound footings, Pakistan and India need to comprehensively address all the issues particularly Jammu and Kashmir, Siachen, Sir Creek and water,” the spokesperson added.
