PoliticsOperation against militants should be last resort: Imran

ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan said on Thursday that an operation against the militants would be backed by the whole nation if it was the last resort, adding that if peace negotiations failed an operation should be approached with extreme caution.

“Prior to the launch of an operation, talks should be given an honest shot to succeed,” Khan said during a press conference in Islamabad.

Khan said it was decided during the all parties conference that the issue of US drone strikes would be raised at the United Nations but since then four drone strikes had taken place in Pakistan’s tribal areas.

The PTI chief said it would be difficult for industries to operate if the price of gas was raised. He said the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government was strictly opposed to an increase in the gas price.

Moreover, the PTI chief said his party had not been consulted on the issue of the appointment of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) chairman.
