No one should belittle parliament: Asif

ISLAMABAD: The federal minister for defence Khawaja Muhammad Asif said on Tuesday that the parliament is a supreme organ of the state and that it will preserve its dignity and also respects all the other institutions.

His statement came a day after Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif said that Pakistan Army upholds the sanctity of all institutions and will resolutely preserve its own dignity and institutional pride.

“While our country is faced with multiple internal and external challenges, Pakistan Army upholds the sanctity of all institutions and will resolutely preserve its own dignity and institutional pride,” the COAS said on Monday while talking to Special Service Group (SSG) officers and soldiers during his visit to the Headquarters of SSG at Ghazi Base, Tarbela.

Speaking on the floor of the lower of the parliament in Islamabad on Tuesday, the defence minister said that the parliament is the supreme institution and it is our collective responsibility not to belittle it.

Meanwhile, the National Assembly adopted a motion authorizing the Speaker to constitute a ten-member committee belonging to major political parties to investigate the allegation of non-payment of taxes by number of parliamentarians and present report within 90 days.
