ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is leaving on a five-day official visit to China today morning to hold wide ranging talks with Chinese leadership aimed at further strengthening existing deep rooted ties and increasing bilateral relations.

He will be accompanied by a high-level delegation for his first official visit abroad after assuming his office.

Focus of the visit will be expanding economic and trade ties besides strengthening partnership and finalizing a trade corridor between the two countries. MOUs will also be signed to promote cooperation in various fields particularly the energy sector.

The visit signifies the closeness and warmth which characterizes Pakistan-China relations. High-level visits are the hallmark of the strong Pakistan-China relations.

A task force led by Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal recently visited China and finalized a number of proposals and initiatives which would be concretized during the Prime Minister’s visit.

The Prime Minister during his meetings with Chinese President and Premier will also discuss regional situation and Afghan and security issues.

Besides official talks with the Chinese leadership‚ the Prime Minister’s engagements include meetings with leaders of Chinese financial and corporate sector‚ interaction with media and visit to major industrial centers and Special Economic Zones.
