KARACHI: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif said on Thursday that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government respects mandate of all parties to put the country on the path to progress and prosperity through collective efforts.

He was talking to newsmen during his visit to Mazar-e-Quaid in Karachi on Thursday afternoon.

The Prime Minister said the country is facing challenges like terrorism and extremism but it is encouraging that we are moving forward in a civilized manner.

Replying to a question‚ he said the government is not oblivious of the security and law and order challenges including the Karachi situation.

The PM Nawaz said the federal and provincial governments have already started discussions on formulation of a strategy envisaging setting up counter terrorism force and better policing to fight the menace of crimes.

Replying to a question‚ the Prime Minister said Pakistan wants good neighborly relations with India including promotion of business‚ trade and investment for the benefit of the two peoples.

However‚ he said every effort would be made to resolve all outstanding issues‚ including the longstanding Kashmir dispute‚ with India.

Earlier‚ the Prime Minister arrived in Karachi on his first visit of the metropolis after he took office of the prime minister.

The prime minister, accompanied by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Minister for Information and Broadcasting Pervez Rashid, was received at the airport by Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ebad and Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah.

The PM Nawaz Sharif, soon after his arrival in the metropolis, visited Mazar-e-Quaid and paid respect to the father of the nation.

On the sidelines of Bahrain International Airshow, Commander of Ninth Air Force (US Air Forces Central Command — AFCENT), Lieutenant General Derek France called on Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu, Chief of the Air Staff, Pakistan Air Force. The Air Chief reiterated his resolve to further enhance the existing bilateral cooperation between the two strategic partners. Commander AFCENT appreciated Pakistan’s efforts in promoting regional peace and vowed to enhance cooperation in the fields of joint training, mutual exercises and military to military collaboration. In a separate meeting, Chief of the Air Staff also called on Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa, Commander-in-Chief of the Bahrain Defence Force.
