NAP implementation faces political challenges: DG ISPR

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) Director General Major General Asim Bajwa has said that even though some parts of the 20-point national action plan (NAP) have already been launched but some still require more time due to political challenges.

Pakistanlaunched the national plan of action in a bid to root out terrorism in the country in the wake of a militant attack on December 16, 2014 at an army-run school in Peshawar.

One of the biggest achievements of the plan were the physical operations in FATA [Federally Administered Tribal Areas], intelligence-based operations and choking the FUNDING of terrorist groups,” Bajwa said while speaking to the Russian magazine Sputnik.

The director general ISPR said that that anti-terror action plan is proving to be effective in cutting the funds of terrorist groups operating in the country.

Bajwa said that they are expanding anti-extremism measures focusing on younger people who are the primary targets of terrorist recruitment.

“We started with some pilot projects for the deradicalization program that now has extended to the national level,” he said.
