Musharraf seeks exemption from court appearance in treason case

ISLAMABAD: A three-member special court constituted for the high treason trial of Pervez Musharraf on Thursday resumed the hearing of the case, while the counsels of former president sought exemption for their client from appearance in the court.

The special court headed by Justice Faisal Arab and comprising Justice Tahira Safdar and Justice Yawar Ali remarked that arrest warrants of Musharraf may be issued if he does not appear today.

On Wednesday, the court ordered the former President Pervez Musharraf to appear in the treason case today (Thursday).

The court declared that if Pervez Musharraf did not appear on Thursday‚ the court would be compelled to order his arrest despite the fact that it had no intention to arrest him being former president of the country.

During proceedings, Justice Faisal further said the court could not stop its proceedings on account of security concerns.
