ISLAMABAD: The opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Thursday stressed the need for cooling down the situation emerged after the Model Town incident and demanded withdrawal of FIRs registered against protesters.

Speaking on a point of order in the lower house of the parliament, the opposition leader and the Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) senior leader said that the government should have adopted political strategy to handle the situation in Lahore to avoid loss of precious lives.

The PPP senior leader said that his party stands by the government to safeguard democracy.
