RAWALPINDI: Lt General Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad has been appointed as new Chief of General Staff of Pakistan army on Friday.

His appointment was made by newly-appointed Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif who had assumed charge of 15th COAS at a ceremony held at general headquarters in Rawalpindi earlier in the day. The outgoing army chief General Ashfaq Pervez Kayani had handed over the command of the army to the new army chief.

In a statement the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that before his promotion to the rank of Lt General‚ Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad was performing services as the Director General of the Military Operations (DGMO) for over two years.

Lt General Ishfaq Nadeem Ahmad has commanded a strike Infantry Division and led successful military operation in Swat. He has also been Chief of Staff of a strike Corps, the ISPR said.
