KARACHI: The local bodies elections in Sindh will be held on January 18, the provincial government has decided.

According to Sindh minister for local bodies and information Sharjeel Memon, the decision regarding holding of local bodies polls across Sindh on January 18 was taken in a meeting held at Chief Minister House in Karachi on Friday.

The minister said that the provincial government wanted to hold bodies elections in March but it obeyed the Election Commission of Pakistan’s (ECP) orders.

On Thursday, the ECP had dismissed a second request by the Sindh government seeking an extension in the date for holding local bodies polls in the province.

The Chief Secretary Sindh had held a meeting with Acting Chief Election Commissioner and informed him of the province’s unwillingness to hold polls on January 18.

However, the ECP had dismissed the request and decided to conduct local bodies polls in Sindh on January 18.
