LAHORE: The Islami Jamiat-e-Talaba (IJT) activists on Monday held protests in different areas of Lahore against the arrest of their companions by police from the Punjab University.
The Punjab police carried out a raid at the hostel no 16 of the Punjab University on Monday morning and arrested 17 members of the IJT, the student wing of Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), for their alleged involvement in violence against the university’s teachers.
In a statement, a spokesman for the IJT in Punjab University said that the patience of the students should not be tested. He urged authorities to immediately release the arrested students.
Following the arrest of IJT activists, other members of the organization came on the roads and held demonstrations.
The protesting students used buses to block traffic on the new campus bridge and other areas. According to reports, they blocked canal road, band road and Multan road for traffic.
The drivers of the buses accused the students of snatching keys from them on gun point and fleeing way.
