Government negotiators express inability to carry forward dialogue process

ISLAMABAD: The negotiators from the government in peace talks with the Taliban on Tuesday expressed their inability to carry forward the dialogue process in the face of continuation of violent activities by the Taliban.

A meeting was held between Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the government peace committee formed to hold talks with the outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP)-nominated committee in Islamabad on Tuesday, during which the government committee briefed the prime minster about the dialogue process and expressed its inability to carry forward the dialogue process in the face of continuation of violent activities by the Taliban.

However, the committee said that their services for any kind of consultation and assistance will remain at the disposal of the prime minister.

The meeting was also attended by the federal minister for interior Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan and the federal minister for information Pervez Rasheed.

Govt committee urges TTP to immediately stop violent activities

Earlier in its emergency meeting in Islamabad, the government dialogue committee urged the TTP to immediately stop all its violent activities. It observed that result-oriented and meaningful dialogue process could not move forward without this concrete step.

The committee reached the conclusion that success of serious peace effort is dependent upon immediate cessation of violence. It said that the nation is desirous of peace and we cannot play with its nerves for an indefinite period.
