GB elections results: PML-N emerges as largest party

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) has emerged as the single largest party after winning 14 Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly seats out of 24, according to unofficial results.

The unofficial results suggest that three independents won their seats, Majlis Wahdatul Muslemeen (MWM) secured two seats while Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) bagged one seat each.

The PML-N’s candidates who won their seats from various constituencies include Jaffar Ullah from LA-1 and Hafeez-ur-Rehman from LA-2, Dr Iqbal from LA-3, Mir Ghazanfar won his seat from LA-6, Haji Taban from LA-7,Haji Fida Muhammad from LA-9, Iqbal Hassan from LA-11 and Ghulam Hussain from LA-23.

Similarly, the PML-N’s Farman Ali won from LA-13, Barkat Jamil from LA-14, Haider Khan from LA-17, Ibrahim Sanai from LA-22 and Muhammad Wakeel from LA-18.

While Muhammad Ali Haider of Islami Tehrik won from LA-4, Haji Rizwan of MWM from LA-5, Raja Jahanzeb of the PTI won from LA-21 and Imran Nadeem of PPP from LA-12.

Three independent candidates including Nawaz Khan, Fida Khan and Haji Aziz won their seats from LA-19, LA-20 and LA-16 respectively.

The polling for 24 seats of Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly was held on Monday during which over 618,000 registered voters used their right to franchise.

PML-N’s Mumtaz Tarrar wins NA-108 by-election

Separately, Mumtaz Tarrar of PML-N won the by- election of Mandi Bahauddin NA-108 constituency by securing 77, 884 votes while PTI’s Tariq Tarrar got 40,570 votes and remained at second position, according to unofficial results.

The by-election in NA-108 was also held on Monday for which 10 candidates were in the run for the seat. The seat fell vacant after Ijaz Ahmed Chaudhry of PTI was disqualified by the Supreme Court in a fake degree case.
