Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad’s appointment as chairman HEC challenged

ISLAMABAD: A petition has been filed in the Islamabad High Court (IHC), challenging the appointment of Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad as the Chairmen Higher Education Commission (HEC).

The petitioner Ikramullah Ikhlaq asked the court to declare the appointment of Dr Ahmad as illegal because his appointment was not made in accordance with the principles laid down by the superior courts in judgments on identical matters.

Dr. Mukhtar Ahmad was appointed as chairman HEC by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on April 15. His appointment came a day after a single bench of the IHC chaired by Justice Shaukat Aziz Siddiqui directed the federal government to appoint the Chairman HEC within 15 days.
