Dhaka, Bangladesh Torching vehicles, bomb blast and protests in streets ruled capital of Bangladesh Dhaka on Sunday, a day before of scheduled rallies called by ruling Awami League and opposition BNP on January 5.

There are chances of imposing curfew in Dhaka if both parties will try to lead rallies tomorrow, said sources in district administration to Dispatch News desk news agency.

Meanwhile the Deputy Commissioner of Dhaka has announced ban on any sort of political rally after riots are spreading in other parts of the city.

The ban on rallies has been announced on the demand of Dhaka Metropolitan Police. The banned is imposed for indefinite period from evening of Sunday (today).

Masudur Rahman, the deputy commissioner informed media that ban will be effective “irrespective of any political party”. It may be mentioned that Awami League is ruling party in Bangladesh that has announced pro democracy rallies against martial law that was clamped on January 5 in Bangladesh.

“If any party approaches the police seeking permission for a rally, we will scrutinise the plea and may grant them permission if we see it fit. We will not allow any form of chaos in Dhaka metropolitan”, said the deputy commissioner Masudur Rahman.

Riots started on Sunday morning when protesters set fire to eight vehicles – six buses and two auto-rickshaws in Mymensingh and Gazipur areas. Vehicles were burnt down by protesters in different localities including Paltan, Dayaganj, old Dhaka, Gulistan and Azimpur. Police failed to arrest protesters who fled from the scene. A passenger bus was burnt down near Baitul Mukarram National Mosque.

Five people were injured while one leader of ruling party alliance was killed in a bomb blast that took place in Islambagh area.

Police said a homemade bomb was thrown at Eidgah ground of Islambagh around 4:30pm when local arbitration was going on there. Blast resulted injuries to several people father in the meeting and injured were shifted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital where Muhammad Idris was pronounced dead by doctors. Thousands of supporter of Awami League gathered outside the hospital and protested against this bomb blast and demanded arrest of opposition leaders.
