Corps Commanders’ Conference

RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Corps Commanders’ Conference was held at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Tuesday to discuss important matters related to internal security and military operational matters.

The meeting was presided over by the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif.

The meeting reviewed the recently adopted 20-point national action plan (NAP) to combat terrorism, and decided immediate implementation on it on the national and provincial level.

It also focused on the most effective manner of implementing the NAP with the federal and provincial governments, in order to eliminate terrorism, extremism and sectarianism without any discrimination.

The NAP was adopted in the wake of the deadly terror attack that hit an army-run school in Peshawar on December 16, claiming lives of 150 persons mostly children.

The plan includes among others establishment of military courts, special anti-terrorism forces and intensifying operations against militants.

The conference also reviewed Zarb-e-Azb – a full-fledged military operation being conducted against different banned militant outfits in the restive North Waziristan tribal region since June last year – as well as the operation Khyber-1.

Moreover, it also reviewed the security situation at the Line of Control (LoC) and the working boundary.
