ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif will leave for the United States on a week-long visit on November 16, the media reported on Monday.

This will be his first visit to the US since he assumed the charge as the army chief on November 29 last year.

The official sources said that the COAS is coming to the US on a personal invitation from the Chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff General Martin Dempsey.

During his visit, General Raheel is expected to meet the US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel, General Dempsey, Commander of the US Central Command General Lloyd J. Austin and other members of the American defence establishment.

The COAS is also likely to visit Centcom headquarters in Tampa, Florida, as its area of responsibility includes both Afghanistan and Pakistan.
