Chinese foreign minister to visit Pakistan on Feb 12

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will arrive in Pakistan on February 12 for a two-day official visit.

Yi was scheduled to arrive in Pakistan on Monday (today); however, his visit has been delayed for unknown reasons.

“Mr Yi will now be visiting Pakistan from 12 to 13 of February,” an official source said.

The sources said that some strategic engagements of the Chinese foreign minister in Beijing were the reason for the change in schedule.

During his visit, Wang Yi will hold talks with Pakistan’s leadership including President Mamnoon Hussain, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Foreign Affairs and National Security Sartaj Aziz.

“The two sides will cover the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and will discuss regional issues of common interest as per our tradition and practice,” the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasneem Aslam said at her weekly press briefing in Islamabad on Friday while confirming Yi’s visit to Pakistan.

The spokesperson also said that the Chinese President Xi Jinping will visit Pakistan in 2015.

“We have repeatedly said that the Chinese President is expected to visit Pakistan in 2015,” Aslam said.

“The exact dates of the visit are being worked out. Once we have the confirmed dates, we will make an announcement as is the standard practice, in Islamabad and Beijing simultaneously.”
