QUETTA: Home Secretary Balochistan Asad Gilani said in a statement three hundred twenty-eight people have so far died and more than five hundred fifty injured in the earthquake hit areas of Balochistan.About three hundred thousand people have been affected.

Talking to Media in Quetta‚ he said two hundred seventy people were killed alone in the Awaran district while the death toll in Turbat and Kech has mounted to forty three.

He feared that death toll may rise as there are still large numbers of people trapped under the debris and many more critically injured.

Balochistan Home Secretary said wide spread destruction in the Awaran‚ Turbat and Kech districts has posed serious challenge for the provincial government to tackle catastrophe with its available resources.

Deputy Commissioner Awaran Abdul Rasheed Baloch said that earthquake has destroyed over ninety percent mud-houses in Awaran rendering homeless.

ISPR spokesman said four helicopters carrying relief goods and a team of doctors are engaged to rescue the trapped people.

He said about one thousand army personnel from Quetta and Khazdar have reached the affected areas and started relief work.

Balochistan Disaster Management Authority officials said that twenty-two trucks loaded with food packets‚ tents‚ blankets‚ medicines and other stuff have been dispatched to the affected area.

Meanwhile‚ Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch said the relief teams will soon reach the entire quake hit areas in Balochistan for providing relief and shelter to the affected people.

Talking to officials during his visit to worst hit Awaran district‚ he said the quake had affected at major chunk of population in affected areas where a number of houses were completely destroyed.

He appreciated the services rendered by Pakistan Army‚ Balochistan Frontier Corps and other government agencies in quake hit areas. He said they carried out relief and rescue operation with unprecedented spirit and devotion.
