ISLAMABAD: Kamran Murtaza, a candidate of Asma Jehangir group won the elections of Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) with 1,032 votes followed by 874 by the rival group’s Amanullah Kanrani.

Asma noted the lawyers stood by the truth and those who treaded the path of hypocrisy, had to face defeat in the elections.

The largest polls arena was set up in Lahore where 869 out of registered 1191 votes, were cast. Of them, 436 votes were in favor of Kamran and Hamid Khan group’s Kanrani secured 392 votes.

The results of elections in Islamabad also propped up Kamran, who notched 219 votes followed by Kanrani with 118 votes.

In Karachi, Kanrani secured 141 votes against 115 votes grabbed by his rival; however, this lead could do nothing to benefit him.

The newly elected president thanked community of lawyers over his victory and expressed resolve to uphold the policies of his group for the supremacy of law.
