MALE: The 35th session of the SAARC Council of Ministers is set to begin in Maldives on Wednesday, to discuss issues related to regional cooperation, poverty alleviation, monetary affairs, food safety, environmental changes and changes in education.
The decision on inclusion of Turkey as the 10th SAARC Observer State will also be taken up for discussion.
Pakistan supports the role and participation of Observers in SAARC as it raises the organization’s global stature and has already given its support for Turkey’s entry into the SAARC as an observer state.
The advisor to the prime minister on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz will lead the Pakistani delegation. He will also meet new leadership of Maldives and exchange views on matters of mutual interest on the sidelines of the SAARC Council of Ministers meeting.
