COLOMBO, Sri Lanka: The three-day Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) began in Colombo on Friday.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif is representing Pakistan in the 23rd summit. He attended a colorful opening ceremony of the moot here today.
In his opening note, Sri Lankan President Mahindra Rajapakse welcomed the dignitaries and expressed his country’s commitment to play the role to resolve the issues of unemployment, hunger, food insecurity and water in the region.
The summit is being attended by Commonwealth Heads of Government representing 53-member countries.
On the sidelines of the Summit‚ the Prime Minister will also hold meetings with his Sri Lankan‚ Australian and New Zealand’s counterparts and other leaders to promote bilateral relations.
Pakistan is one of the eight founding members of the Commonwealth which signed the London Declaration in 1949.
