Rafique Rajwana appointed as Punjab governor

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: President Mamnoon Hussain on Thursday appointed Senator Malik Muhammad Rafique Rajwana as new Governor Punjab, a post which had been remaining vacant since January this year.

His appointment was approved by the president as the Punjab governor after Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif gave his consent to it.

Senator Rafique Rajwana belongs to southern Punjab and has been very active in politics. He remained associated with the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) throughout his political career.

In a statement after getting new appointment, Rajwana said that he will make all-out effort to serve the people of the province. He assured the prime minister that he will come up to the expectations of the leadership.

The Punjab Assembly Speaker Rana Iqbal took over as the acting governor Punjab after Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar resigned on January 29.
