CrimeQuetta police team reaches Islamabad to arrest Musharraf in Bugti murder case

QUETTA: An investigation team of the Quetta police crime branch which includes senior officials reached Islamabad on Wednesday to arrest former military ruler Pervez Musharraf in the Akbar Bugti murder case.

Earlier on Monday, an anti-terrorist court in Quetta had issued non-bailable arrest warrants against Musharraf. Moreover, on Tuesday the ATC judge Muhammad Ismail Baloch rejected Musharraf’s bail application in the Akbar Bugti murder case.

The court had moreover ordered a police team to arrest Musharraf by June 24.

Nawab Akbar bugti’s son Jamil Bugti had nominated Musharraf, former prime minister Shaukat Aziz and others in his father’s murder.

Baloch nationalist leader Nawab Akbar Bugti was killed in a cave on August 26, 2006 during a military crackdown ordered by Musharraf who was president and army chief at the time.

Bugti had led an armed campaign to press for provincial autonomy and a greater share of profits from Balochistan’s natural resources. The death of the colourful, British-educated chieftain sparked angry protests in the country.
