Punjab witnesses two more executions

LAHORE, Pakistan: The Punjab witnessed more executions on Thursday morning as two murder convicts were hanged to death in Sargodha and Sahiwal districts.

A condemned prisoner Gul Muhammad was executed in Sargodha District Jail on the directives of a sessions court in Khushab.

The court had awarded death penalty to him in 2000, a year after he killed his brother-in-law Shahbaz in Khushab District.

Similarly, another convict Muhammad Hanif was sent to the gallows in Sahiwal Central Jail for killing a police official in 2006.

Hanif had left the assistant sub-inspector Ehsanullah dead during a clash with police. Later in 2007, he was given the death sentence by an anti-terrorism court.

On Wednesday morning, five murder convicts were sent to the gallows in various jails across the Punjab province.
