LAHORE: The Punjab University Lahore’s hostels have been accommodating the heavily armed men who have been residing illegally and also have an extortion list, the Vice Chancellor of the University has revealed to media.

“One room was raided in the hostel and only one arrest was made. Mobile phones, list of Islami Jamiat Talba members, jihadi literature, NATO jacket, clothes and plastic gloves were recovered,” Vice Chancellor of the Punjab University Dr Mujahid Khan said.

Earlier, three suspects believed to be affiliated with Al-Qaeda were arrested from the Punjab University and Township area.

The sources said that intelligence agencies, on a tip off, conducted raids in the residential colony and arrested a suspect who identified as Shehzad, according to the information, was a bomb making expert working for Al-Qaeda was residing there

Moreover, a retired doctor was also arrested from the Township area while his son was detained few days earlier. Law enforcement agencies claim that the father and son were involved in fund raising and logistic support for the Taliban.
