ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Punjab Food Authority on Saturday foiled an attempt of supplying more than 1200 kilograms of substandard meat in Lahore and arrested two accused persons.

A private news channel said that the security authorities stopped a car and a mini truck at a checkpost and recovered unhygienic meat.

Security officers also apprehended accused drivers Tariq and Akbar and shifted them to police station for further investigation while the samples have been sent to laboratory for test.

On the other hand, Punjab Food Authority has assured to raid the area from where the meat was being smuggled.

Earlier, at least 200kg meat was seized by law enforcers in Lahore’s Thokar Niaz Baig area. Livestock authorities said that the dead animals’ meat was brought to Lahore from out of station.

As many as seven culprits were arrested in the operation.
