Two more matches of Group 1 of Super 12 Round in ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2022 are being played at Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) on Wednesday.

In the first match, England and Ireland are up against each other while later in the day, Afghanistan and New Zealand will meet at the same venue.

After winning the toss, England decided to bowl first and took seven wickets of Ireland in 18 overs where their score was 150 by the time of filing of this story.

Irelan’s Paul Stirling scored 14 before he lost his wicket to Mark Wood while his opening partner and the team captain Andy Balbirnie scored 62 off 47 balls. Andy Balbirnie was coughed at deep square leg off Liam Livingstone’s ball.

The Wicket Keeper batsman Lorcan Tucker got run out before scoring 34. Harry Tector was bowled by Livingstone in the very first ball for 0. Curtis Campher also scored 17.

For England, Mark Wood and Liam Livingstone took three wickets each.

In the Points Table of Group 1, New Zealand are at top followed by England, Sri Lanka and Australia respectively. All these four teams have two points each but net run rates pushed them to occupy the respective places.

In Group 1, Afghanistan and Ireland have yet to register a victory.

Earlier on Tuesday, Australia defeated Sri Lanka by seven wickets at Perth.

Bating first, Sri Lanka scored 157 for 6 in 20 overs. In reply, Australia reached the target in 16.3 overs with 7 wickets still in hand.

Marcus Stoinis smashed unbeaten 59 runs off just 18 balls.
