In the first ODI, Pakistan won the toss and elected to bat first. However, top batters struggled early on as Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam had lost their wickets for a total score 7. Fakhar went for 2 while Babar had his first duck in ODIs after July 2019.

In the middle order, Aghan Salman also failed to make an impact and could score only 7 runs.

However, the opener Imam Ul Haq injected some stability into the Pakistan innings and scored 61 runs. He along with Mohammad Rizwan (21 runs), Iftikhar Ahmed (30 runs), and Shadab Khan (39 runs) built brief partnerships.

Imam Ul Haq’s 61 runs in the first ODI helped him to move up one place to third in the latest ICC ODI batter rankings.

Later Naseem Shah also contributed with bat and scored 18 runs.

Pakistan were bowled out for 201 in 47.1 overs.

For Afghanistan, Mujeeb Ur Rehman took 3 wickets whereas Mohammad Nabi and Rashid Khan picked up 2 wickets each. Fazalhaq Farooqi and Rahmat Shah also grabbed 1 wicket each.

Though Afghanistan had to achieve a modest target of 202 runs in 50 overs but it turned out to be a nightmare for them. The entire team was bowled out for just 59 runs, which was their second lowest score against any team in ODIs.PTV Sports Live Pakistan vs Afghanistan Second ODI 2023
