ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Thursday at the PTA Headquarters in Islamabad, which will have significant impact at the national level for digital, social, and economic transformation.

The various areas of collaboration include the adoption of new ICT technologies for e-governance initiatives, biometric verification innovations, and the use of ICTs to achieve UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) targets and contribute to government of Pakistan’s “Vision2025”.

The collaboration will strengthen and streamline ongoing and future programs including Digital Identity, Multi-finger Biometric Verification System, and Fraud Detection & Prevention to achieve organizational goals.

The event was attended by the Chairman NADRA Tariq Malik, the Member (Finance) PTA Muhammad Naveed along with Senior Officers from both organizations.

The MoU was signed by the Director General (Strategy & Development) PTA Chaudhry Mudassar Naveed and the Chief Project Officer NADRA Muhammad Gohar Ahmed Khan.

During the event, the Chairman NADRA stressed the significance of collaboration between the two organizations, highlighting PTA’s contributions to NADRA’s initiatives.

The Chairman NADRA expressed his optimistic outlook, anticipating positive outcomes for Pakistan as a result of this partnership.

The Member Finance PTA also expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration and the opportunities it presents. He emphasized that the goal is to promote innovation and cooperation by harnessing the strengths of both organizations.

Moreover, the MoU aims to establish a coordination mechanism that will enable smooth working relations, capacity building through knowledge sharing, and conducting sessions/trainings on relevant issues and technological advancements.

The partnership between the two organizations will contribute to the Country’s overall vision of becoming a digital society and a leader in technology innovation.

According to details, in the year 2024, PHP checked 31.4 million people on the highways across Punjab through e-Police Post App and arrested 6,537 proclaimed offenders/judicial fugitives. Punjab Highway Patrol checked 18.8 million vehicles with the help of modern technology and also recovered 3,350 stolen vehicles/motorcycles. More than 112,000 passengers facing difficulties on the roads across Punjab were provided with various types of assistance and guidance. 119,000 citizens were provided with various types of assistance and guidance at Police Khidmat Markazes. 1,093 cases were registered for the use of illegal weapons. 20,925 liters of alcohol, 400 kilograms of hashish, 53 kilograms of opium and 5.5 kilograms of heroin were recovered from drug peddlers.
