ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: His Excellency Dr. Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber, President-designate of COP–28 and UAE’s Minister for Industry and Advanced Technologies delivered a talk on issues related to Climate Change, Sustainability and Energy at the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad on Thursday.
The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will be hosting the COP-28 Meeting from November 30 to December 12, 2023 and assuming the Presidency of the Conference.
The Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Senator Sherry Rehman attended and addressed the gathering.
Over 200 diplomats, government officials, civil society representatives and academicians attended the programme.
In his talk, Dr. Sultan Al Jaber underlined the need for an inclusive approach in meeting the challenges of Climate Change whereby no one was left behind and to bridge the gap between the North and the South.
The President-designate COP-28 highlighted the need to “translate pledges into action”.
The Director General Foreign Service Academy Ambassador Mazhar Javed underlined the need for our young diplomats to realize the enormity of Climate Change challenge to be able to meaningfully contribute towards the cause in their future careers.
Ambassador Mazhar Javed thanked the visiting dignitary for his valuable talk.
The Foreign Service Academy is training arm of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs imparting training to young Pakistani and foreign diplomats for over the last 40 years.
It’s worth noting that the Foreign Service Academy in Islamabad has now started to invite visiting foreign dignitaries to the academy for talk programmes.
Earlier in May 2023, the Chinese Foreign Minister Qin Gang visited the Foreign Service Academy and now President designate COP-28 has graced an event at the academy with his presence.
