KARACHI/ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Following a brief patch-up between Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), both the opposition parties have now once again have locked horn over the issue of nomination the Opposition Leader in the Senate.
On Wednesday, PPP nominated its Vice-President Sherry Rehman for the Slot of Opposition Leader in the Upper House of the Parliament; however, PTI refused to give its nod to Sherry Rehman’s nomination and announced to bring Azam Swati as its member for the Slot.
Earlier in the day, a PTI delegation reached Bahadurabad in Karachi to meet Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P) leaders to seek their support in nomination of the Opposition Leader in the Senate.
Later talking to media persons, the PTI leader Imran Ismail said that they have requested MQM-P to support PTI in nomination of the Opposition Leader in the Upper House.
Imran Ismail also said that they would formally announce name of its nominated-Opposition Leader on Friday (tomorrow).
The MQM-P leader Faisal Sabzwari said that PPP have destroyed Karachi, adding MQM didn’t want to vote for PPP in election of the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman Senate.
“People in Sindh are upset with PPP. We will not support Sherry Rehman in the Senate,” Faisal Sabzwari said.
Separately talking to media in Islamabad, the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly and PPP stalwart Syed Khursheed Shah said that we don’t have confrontation with PTI.
Khursheed Shah said that PPP has majority for the Opposition Leader in the Senate. He said that allied parties of PPP will support us.
