ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: In contrast to 2002 elections, Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal Pakistan (MMAP) couldn’t meet its expectations in July 25 polls and was forced to remain contented on 12 seats in National Assembly only.
However, having won 2541520 votes from across the Country in 2018 general elections, MMAP led by the Chief of Jamiat Ulema-Islam Fazl (JUI-F) Maulana Fazlur Rehman has categorically rejected the elections results, and seems adamant to get the results declared null and void.
MMAP – an alliance of five religious-political parties including JUI-F, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI), Jamiat Ahle Hadith (JAH), Jamiat Ulema-e-Pakistan (JUP) and Islami Tehreek – also convened an All-Party Conference (APC) in Islamabad on July 27, and announced not to take oath in assemblies as a protest alleged poll rigging apart from holding protests rallies. But Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) decided the other way.
Separately, the PPP leaders met the MMAP Head Maulana Fazlur Rehman on Sunday, and discussed the future course of action.
It is worth mentioning that besides winning 12 seats of National assembly, MMAP also secured nine Balochistan assembly seats by taking 261742 votes; 10 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa assembly seats with 1107486 votes; and one Sindh assembly seat with 597654 votes. It also received 442029 votes in Punjab but failed to occupy even a single provincial seat.
