Politics‘We won’t let the Parliament be weakened’: Khursheed Shah

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Opposition Leader in National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah on Thursday said if the State institutions were weakened, the World would not forgive them, adding that “We will not let the Parliament be weakened.”

While speaking on the floor of the Lower House, Khursheed Shah said the Parliament belonged to the people of Pakistan, and it didn’t belong to any specific class.

“We can also feel that the circumstances are doubtful,” he said.

Khursheed Shah also said the people of Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) must be given their Constitutional status as per other citizens of the Country. He said 95 percent population of FATA was eager to become part of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

The Opposition Leader said the federal government should follow its own Constitution instead of any other act or agreement of the British era.

Without naming the political party, Khursheed Shah said according to a political party, there would be a civil war if the early elections were not conducted.

Meanwhile, the Minister for States and Frontier Regions Abdul Qadir Baloch said while responding to a point of order in the Lower House that the government was committed to introduce FATA Reforms Bill in the National Assembly.

The minister said the FATA Reforms committee had made 25 recommendations including extending jurisdiction of the Supreme Court and the Peshawar High Court.

Abdul Qadir pointed out that due to some technical reasons the government withheld the bill but hopefully it would be tabled in the House in one or two days.
