ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Supreme Court of Pakistan has decided to form a larger bench to hear the Presidential Reference filed by the federal government for the interpretation of Article 63-A of the Constitution.
A larger bench of the Supreme Court will hear the reference on Thursday.
The Apex Court has issued notices to the political parties.
Earlier, the Presidential Reference was filed by the Attorney General of Pakistan Khalid Jawed Khan.
Through the reference filed on the Advice of the Prime Minister Imran Khan, the President Dr. Arif Alvi sought opinion of the Supreme Court of Pakistan regarding the aims and objectives of Article 63 (A), its scope and other related matters.
In the reference, answers to four basic queries were sought from the Apex Court; (1) Will the vote casted by a party dissident be countable? (2) Will the dissident lawmaker be disqualified for life? (3) Can a dissident lawmaker be barred from casting his/her vote? (4) How to stop floor crossing & horse trading?
The reference was filed following reports of deviation of some members of the Parliament belonging to the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) and current situation of the Country.
