PoliticsSupreme Court takes notice of transfer of IGP Islamabad

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: What seems to be surfacing another turbulent situation for the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) at the Supreme Court as the Chief Justice Mian Saqib Nisar on Monday took notice of the transfer of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Jan Muhammad.

The Chief Justice directed the Interior Secretary Major (retd) Azam Suleman Khan and the Attorney General Anwar Mansoor Khan to appear before the Supreme Court and explain as to why the IGP was transferred.

In his remarks, the Chief Justice said that he would not let anybody to put any political pressure and weaken the constitutional institutions.

Earlier on Sunday, the federal government transferred the IGP Islamabad Jan Muhammad and directed him to report to Establishment Division with Immediate effect.

Sources said that his removal followed his refusal to pick the call of Federal Minister for Science and Technology Azam Swati whose son had sought police action against several people for allegedly letting their animals into his farmhouse.

It is pertinent to mention here that soon after he took over the Office in August 2018, the Chief Minister Punjab Sardar Buzdar also stuck into a controversy over the transfer of DPO Pakpattan Rizwan Gondal after the Supreme Court casted an eye over the matter.

As per an inquiry report submitted in the Supreme Court, Usman Buzdar was found guilty; however over his apology, the Court disposed of the matter with a warning.
