Politics‘Snatch my name as well’, says disgruntled Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The disgruntled former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday said first he had been deprived of the Executive Authority and then yesterday he was deprived of the leadership of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) as well.

“My name is Muhammad Nawaz Sharif, snatch it as well,” he said while talking to media outside the accountability court in Islamabad, a day after the Supreme Court of Pakistan ruled against his eligibility to head a political party.

Nawaz Sharif said that was not an unexpected decision for him. He said yesterday the Supreme Court’s decision also snatched the powers of the Parliament.

In response to multiple petitions filed against the Election Act 2017, Justice Mian Saqib Nisar-led three-member bench of the Supreme Court in its verdict on Wednesday evening ruled that no ineligible person – as if he had been disqualified under articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution – couldn’t serve as head of a political party.

Eventually in the light of the Supreme Court’s verdict, the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) de-listed Nawaz Sharif as the President of PML-N.

Meanwhile, the accountalibyt court hearing Avenfield Properties, Azizia Mills and Flagship Investment references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against Sharif family as per the order of the Supreme Court, today accepted exemption plea of Nawaz Sharif and his daughter Maryam Nawaz for one day.

Later both the PML-N leaders reached Punjab House where Nawaz Sharif would preside over a meeting of party leaders.

During the meeting, consultations would be made regarding the party presidentship.

Separately talking to media in Islamabad, the State Minister for Interior Talal Chaudhry said presidentship or premiership was not the problem of Nawaz Sharif. He said Nawaz Sharif’s problem was justice for the lay man. He said previously Nawaz Sharif used to sign, now he would assign this duty to anyone else.

Talal Chaudhry also said instead of complaining to the judiciary, the Parliament should itself think.

“All eyes are set on the Parliament, now the Parliament will decide,” the minister said adding Nawaz Sharif’s goal was to end the old and bogus system.
