PoliticsReferences against Sharif family meant to take political revenge: Nawaz Sharif

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Wednesday said references filed by the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) against him and his family members were baseless, and they had been made to take political revenge.

Talking to media representatives in Islamabad, Nawaz Sharif said he had been kept deprived of fair trial, adding his basic rights had been refused.

Nawaz Sharif said the Supreme Court of Pakistan had given the decision to dispose off all references by the NAB within six months. However, he added, that way they could only get one and half month for the trial of each reference.

Earlier in the day, Nawaz Sharif, his daughter Maryam Nawaz, and Son-in-Law Captain (retd) Muhammad Safdar appeared before the accountability court in Islamabad, wherein during the hearing, the Court rejected Nawaz Sharif’s plea seeking unification of all three references filed by the NAB.

While delivering the reserved verdict, the Accountability Court Judge Muhammad Bashir said the references would be heard separately.

The Court also once again inducted Nawaz Sharif in London Flats, Al-Azizia Steel Mills and Flagship Investment references.

Later, the Court adjourned the hearing of NAB references till November 15.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court issued its 23-page detailed verdict which had dismissed all review petitions filed by Sharif family against Panama Papers Case judgement announced on July 28, 2017.

In its detail verdict, the Supreme Court maintained that the review petition had nothing substantial which could question the fairness of Panama judgement.

The Court said that Nawaz Sharif tried to befool the Parliament, Court and people. It also said that neither appointing a monitoring judge was something unprecedented not he could influence the further trial process.
