ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan People’s Party’s (PPP) Senator Mian Raza Rabbani on Saturday said the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) should answer as to how the nomination papers of candidates of proscribed outfits were accepted.

While speaking in the Senate which resumed its Session under the supervision of Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Raza Rabbani regretted that candidates of banned organizations were also participating in the general elections 2018.

The PPP’s Senator said the upcoming general elections were very important for democratic future of the Country.

The Leader of Opposition Sherry Rehman said reputation of those elections was vital for the positive image of Pakistan. She said it would augur well for the Country if the elections were managed in a smooth manner.

The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf’s (PTI) Senator Shibli Faraz said his party supported the demand of free and fair elections while Senator Sitara Ayaz of Awami National Party (ANP) said it was responsibility of political parties to motivate the people to come out on the polling day and cast their vote.

Senator Sadia Abbasi of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) said the caretaker governments should stay impartial to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in the Country.

Senator Assad Junejo denounced the recent acts of terrorism in the Country, and urged the caretaker government to fulfill its responsibility vis-à-vis law and order situation.
