Punjab LB polls likely to be delayed

ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) said on Wednesday that local bodies elections in Punjab are not possible on January 30 as issues of new delimitation and printing of ballot papers have become an impediment.

The statement came a day after a full bench of the Lahore High Court (LHC) declared the delimitation of constituencies in Punjab unlawful and directed the ECP that delimitation be carried out in accordance with the country’s constitution and laws.

The sources in the ECP said that scrutiny of nomination papers would continue as per schedule.

Moreover, they said that the Punjab government should contact the electoral body if it was not able to hold the elections.
