FAISALABAD, Pakistan: As many as 3,944,545 registered voters will use their right to vote in local government elections in Faisalabad district under strict security arrangements on Saturday (October 31).

According to the Election Commission of Pakistan, a total of 1,419 candidates of chairman and vice chairman had submitted their nomination papers of which 226 withdrew and two candidates have been elected unopposed.

812 candidates will contest election in 189 union councils for chairman/vice chairman slots in the District Councils Faisalabad and 607 candidates in 157 union councils of Municipal Corporation Faisalabad.

Total 924 candidates submitted their nomination papers for chairman/vice chairman slots in the District Councils Faisalabad of which 110 candidates withdrew their papers and 2 candidates were elected unopposed.

723 candidates submitted their nomination papers in Municipal Corporations Faisalabad and 116 candidates withdrew papers.

A total of 2,944 candidates will contest for General Councilorship of District Council’s Union Councils whereas 2,885 candidates will fight for General Members of Municipal Corporation Faisalabad and 598 on seven Municipal Committee’s Wards.

Total nine women are contesting election on chairman seats, six vice-chairman and 16 general members.

Total six non-Muslim candidates are contesting election for chairman, 11 Vice-chairman and 38 for general members.

The Election Commission of Pakistan has set up 3,906 polling stations and 9,773 polling booths in district Faisalabad to hold free, fair and transparent elections.
