LAHORE, Pakistan: The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI)-led Punjab government will table the new local government bill 2019 in the Punjab assembly for its passage on Tuesday.

It was a Private Members Day today; however, the provincial government deferred it and put the official business agenda in place.

The Punjab government would get two bills for new local bodies system – Punjab Local Government 2019 and Punjab Village, Panchayat and Neighbourhood Council Bill – passed from the assembly.

In a statement, the Information Minister of Punjab Syed Sumsam Bukhari said that it’s a historical day today of Punjab’s history. He said that today they are going to get the bill passed for new local bodies system.

Sumsam Bukhari said that through this, power will be devolved to the lower level. He said that it would help strengthen and empower the democratic institutions.

After the passage of the bill from the House, it will be sent to the Governor Punjab for his consent. As the governor approves the bill and a gazette notification is issued, the current local government institutions will stand dissolved.

As per the Punjab Chief Minister’s Chief Spokesperson Dr Shahbaz Gill, the administrators will take over the local government system till fresh elections are held within a year.
