ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has strongly criticized the nomination of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, terming the move as an epitome of cynicism and nepotism.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi approved the appointment of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui – the son of prominent businessman Jahangir Siddiqui – as Pakistan’s ambassador to the US after the former Envoy in Washington Aizaz Ahmad Chaudhry’s tenure ended on February 25. Ali Jahangir Siddiqui will take charge in Washington next month.
In a statement issued on Thursday, the PTI Spokesperson Fawad Chaudhry made trenchant criticism on the incumbent government, saying that Ali Jahangir Siddiqui’s nomination as the ambassador is reprehensible and worst example of nepotism.
The Spokesperson said that before him, an absconder and money launderer has been made member of the Upper House – Senate.
“Apart from being business partner of the incumbent Prime Minister and a relative of Mir Shakeel, what are the credentials of Ali Jahangir Siddiqui?” the PTI Spokesperson said.
The PTI Spokesperson said that Pakistan-US relations are undergoing serious challenges with each passing days, asserting that nomination of an experienced and competent representative is imperative to keep the relations between the two Countries on the right track.
“Such type of nomination at a very sensitive slot is nothing but a joke with this nation”, Fawad Chaudhry lamented.
“PML-N’s model is erected on the principals of nepotism and the self-styled champions of democracy are running matters through Iqama holders like Khawaja Asif and Ahsan Iqbal,” he added.
