ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A day after the former Prime Minister and Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan was arrested from the premises of the Islamabad High Court (IHC), the PTI Central Secretary General Asad Umar has been taken into custody as well from the same venue.

Asad Umar was arrested under the Maintenance of Public Order [MPO] Section 16.

Sources said that it has been decided to arrest all top leadership of PTI under the MPO 16.

Earlier, the former Punjab Governor and PTI leader Omar Sarfraz Cheema was also arrested from his residence early in the morning on the charges of misusing his powers while being on the post.

The former Prime Minister Imran Khan arrested by Rangers in the Al-Qadir Trust Case from the IHC on Tuesday, triggering a violent protest across the Country.

Meanwhile, Imran Khan has been produced before the Accountability Court – shifted to Police Lines Islamabad for security reasons – where the National Accentuality Bureau (NAB) has requested his 14-day physical remand.

The Judge Muhammad Bashir of the Accountability Court is hearing the Al-Qadir Trust Case for embezzling Rs 60 billion.

Separately, the PTI has challenged the decision of the Islamabad High Court which had declared the arrest of Imran Khan ‘legal’.

Following the eruption of nationwide protests against Imran Khan’s arrest, the British Council cancelled all the papers scheduled on May 10 whereas the Punjab government also announced to shut all public and private educational institutions on Wednesday.

Likewise, social media platforms including Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube were blocked across Pakistan whereas internet service was also suspended in various Cities amid mounting violence in the Country.
