PTI decides to resign from National Assembly

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As expected, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) members of the National Assembly have decided to tender resignations from the National Assembly after its prime minister was voted out from the seat.

The decision was made after a meeting of the PTI’s Parliamentary Party held at the Parliament House in Islamabad on Monday.

“The Parliamentary Party has decided to resign from the assemblies. We don’t recognize the imported government,” the former Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib wrote on Twitter.

In his remarks at the Parliamentary Party Meeting, Imran Khan said that he cannot sit with the plunderers in the Parliament.

Reiterating his resolve of not retreating from his principled stand, Imran Khan said that even if he is left alone, he will resign.

Separately talking to media, Imran Khan said that Shahbaz Sharif is facing corruption cases worth billions of rupees, and its shame for the Country to see such man as the Prime Minister.

Earlier, Senator Faisal Javed Khan told on Twitter that the PTI’s Parliamentary Party had forwarded the authority to the Party Chairman Imran Khan to decide on their resignations from the National Assembly.

Currently, PTI is the majority party in the National Assembly with 155 members. However, a few of its lawmakers have now parted away with the party but yet enjoying the House membership.

Meanwhile, a few of PTI MNAs including Murad Saeed, Farrukh Habib, Aliya Hamza Malik, Shahid Khattak and Sadaqat Ali Abbasi have shared their resignations on Twitter.

A number of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) members when contacted to comment over this development were of the view that since PTI lost majority in the House, there is no use to sit in an assembly that PTI has never respected and used only for being in power.

The PML-N members said that PTI always used the Presidential Office for legislation and the former Prime Minister Imran Khan always refrained from attending the National Assembly Session.

They said that PTI relations with the Parliamentary System is only one—- to use it for in power and if it does not give PTI power then PTI damns care of the system.

It’s worth noting that PML-N itself had decided to tender mass resignations from the National Assembly almost a year ago as part of a political move to disrupt the legislative affairs and bring an end to Imran Khan’s regime. However, later they went against the decision as persuaded by Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), which enjoyed a power in the Sindh province and wanted a full five-year tenure in the office.
